A long time ago I had an opportunity to do a Marie Curie post-doctoral fellowship at London Business School on Michael's invitation. It had a huge impact on me and my career. Michael was a great teacher and colleague. I will always remember the night we spent in Helsinki attending the post-viva party thrown by another colleague, Helena Yli-Renko. The night was long and left many hilarious memories. So saddened to hear about his passing. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

I worked with Michael 'way back when' at London Business School and also in my later work for the Graduate Admissions Council. He was an inspirational colleague. He always concentrated on what was right for the students, their employers and the market overall and was guided by these as he navigated the process of persuasion and change. Always willing to adjust his views if the facts changed - but not to give up on basic principles. I learnt so much from Michael about how to think and how to make things happen. And how to have fun - even in the departure lounge at Dulles airport, something that had always escaped me till we happened to coincide there! Disciplined thinking, charm and a sense of fun - what a combination. My thoughts are with his family. Julia Tyler
